{"id":6827,"date":"2019-04-30T17:44:16","date_gmt":"2019-05-01T00:44:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/everythingisnotblackandwhite.com\/blog\/?p=6827"},"modified":"2019-04-30T17:44:16","modified_gmt":"2019-05-01T00:44:16","slug":"watch-yourself-and-salt-residue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everythingisnotblackandwhite.com\/blog\/?p=6827","title":{"rendered":"Watch Yourself and Salt Residue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was rearranging my studio and ran across a beautiful salt residue from a patina used on metal bits.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class='centered' src=\"\/images\/WatchYourself7_Salt_IMG_7865.jpg\" alt=\"Salt\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class='centered' src=\"\/images\/WatchYourself8_Salt_IMG_7864.jpg\" alt=\"Salt\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class='centered' src=\"\/images\/WatchYourself9_Salt_IMG_7868.jpg\" alt=\"Salt\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I used the salt solution on metal bits from a broken veg steamer that I planned to use in the piece <i>Watch Yourself<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class='centered' src=\"\/images\/WatchYourself2_Parts_IMG_5655.jpg\" alt=\"Watch Yourself Parts\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Why <i>Watch Yourself<\/i>? Steamers in use are too hot to touch, so be careful. Also the addition of mirror gives the viewer a peek at what they are doing.<\/p>\n<p>The code on used in the piece is based on a combination of Morse and Celtic Tree Code that I used in a previous piece.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class='centered' src=\"\/images\/WatchYourself1_Code_IMG_6541.jpg\" alt=\"Watch Yourself Code\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A salt solution was used to add some rust.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class='centered' src=\"\/images\/WatchYourself3_Patina_IMG_5630.jpg\" alt=\"Watch Yourself Patina\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class='centered' src=\"\/images\/WatchYourself3_Solution_IMG_5627.jpg\" alt=\"Watch Yourself Patina\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class='centered' src=\"\/images\/WatchYourself4_Patina_IMG_5645.jpg\" alt=\"Watch Yourself Patina\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class='centered' src=\"\/images\/WatchYourself5_Patina_IMG_5644.jpg\" alt=\"Watch Yourself Patina\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The other materials in the piece are mirror, linen, and jump rings.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class='centered' src=\"\/images\/WatchYourself6_IMG_6642.jpg\" alt=\"Watch Yourself Patina\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To Complete\u2013application of wax, build a cedar box, nail the assembled piece inside the box using existing steamer holes.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"hrVisible\" \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was rearranging my studio and ran across a beautiful salt residue from a patina used on metal bits.
